ASNT NDT Program Renewal Requirements
Detailed explanation with table of renewal points values.

ASNT NDT Certificate holders are permitted to renew by points at five year intervals unless recertification by examination is required by another third-party. ASNT defines renewal and recertification as follows:

Renewal by Points is done by submitting documentation indicating that certain requirements have been met and does not require examination.

Renewal by Examination requires re-examination in each applicable test method.

Note: Certificate holders have the option to renew by examination instead of renewing by points.

Because ASNT has recently revised the renewal requirements for NDT certification, the options for renewal have changed. To determine what requirements you are required to satisfy, select the certification program and category below that fits your current certification to find the information that applies to your certification.

ASNT NDT Level III

The ASNT NDT Level III program permits ASNT Level III certificate holders to renew by "Points" at 5-year intervals. The "points" system requires that certificate holders earn 25 points during their current 5-year certification period for NDT-related activities as described on page 5 of the ASNT NDT Program Renewal Requirements document. The same activity table, the points allowed, definitions and examples of appropriate documentation are also described on pages 5 - 7 of the Level III Renewal application, and page 5 of the application has a column where certificate holders can keep track of their points as they are accumulated.

Personnel that cannot document 25 points during their current certification period may renew by examination but must do so before their current certificates expire.

Personnel recertifying by examination need not retake the Basic examination as long as the applicant holds one currently valid ASNT NDT Level III certificate at the time of examination.

ASNT Central Certification Program (ACCP)

ACCP renewal by points without re-examination is permitted at the first 5-year interval after certification (or recertification) by examination. Renewal by examination is required 10-years after examination unless otherwise noted below. Renewal by examination may be done in lieu of renewal by points.

Renewal of your ACCP Professional Level III will also satisfy the requirements for renewal of your ASNT NDT Level III certificates if you hold dual ASNT certifications.

ACCP Professional Level III

For renewal of your current ACCP Professional Level III certifications at the 5-year interval you will use the 25-point renewal system that is shown at ASNT 25-Point Renewal.

Renewal by examination at the 10-year interval will require successful completion of an abbreviated written examination as detailed in ASNT 25-Point Renewal.

ACCP Level II

To renew your ACCP Level II certifications at the 5-year interval you will use the 25-point renewal system requirements shown on page 2 of the renewal/recertification document at ASNT 25-Point Renewal.

Renewal of your ACCP Level II certifications at the 10-year interval will require successful completion of abbreviated Practical examinations as detailed on pages 2 & 3 of the renewal/recertification document at ASNT 25-Point Renewal.

If you initially received ACCP certification based on holding third-party NDT certification (CGSB, JSNDI, EN-473, etc) from another approved certification body. Submit Renewal Application for 3rd-Party Certificate Holders (pdf).

If you initially received ACCP certification based on AWS CWI & SCWI Certification. Submit Renewal Application for CWI Certificate Holders (pdf).
