John Stewart is an ASNT NDT Level III (RT, UT, and PT), and NAS 410 Level III (RT, UT, PT, VT, and MT). The American Aerospace Technical Academy (AATA) was founded in 2015 after Stewart retired from SpaceX. Stewart decided to dedicate himself full time to helping economically disadvantaged veterans and women struggling with poor job prospects secure fulfilling careers in the NDT field. Stewart, who over the course of his 25-year career in nondestructive testing (NDT) has trained engineers and technicians for companies such as NASA JPL, SpaceX, Sierraspace, ABL Spacesystems, Virgin Galactic, The Spaceship Co., Relativity, Northrop Grumman, and more. Stewart believed that by addressing inadequate STEM opportunities, one could empower youth and returning military veterans to fill the shortage of NDT professionals in many of California’s booming industries. He currently also trains active-duty military personnel and helps them relocate back to the states where they can start their OJT and continue to collect their BHA allowance. Stewart is a United States Navy Veteran and served as a Navy “Seabee” attached to Amphibious Construction Battalion 2.
