Research Recognition for Innovation

The Research Recognition for Innovation recognizes highly distinguished individual breakthroughs in research in the field of NDE/NDT within the past five years.


Nominees must have contributed to a breakthrough in NDE/NDT research made within five years of the date of nomination, such as when a patent was issued, a publication was released, or a recognition granted.


Nominations must consist of:

  • A letter detailing the breakthrough and contributions of the nominee
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • 2 letters of support

Self-nominations will not be accepted.

The Non-Financial Recognition & Honors Committee selects up to one individual per year. The recipient is required to deliver a plenary address on his or her breakthrough during ASNT’s Research Symposium. If the presentation is not given, the Recognition may be retracted.

Award Timeline

  • Nomination deadline: 30 September
  • The Non-Financial Recognition and Honors Committee will provide its recommendation to the Board of Directors before or during ASNT’s Annual Conference
  • The recipient will be notified following the ASNT Annual Conference

2021 Recipient

Congratulations to Dr. Joseph Case for receiving the 2021 Research Recognition for Innovation! Dr. Case has been a member of the technical staff at the Aerospace Corporation since January 2014. He performs research in the Physical Sciences Laboratory in the field of nondestructive testing for microwave and millimeter wave, ultrasound, x-ray, thermography, and more.
