Anish Poudel

Anish Poudel works as the Principal Investigator for Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) within the Research and Development department of MxV Rail (Formerly TTCI). Dr. Poudel holds a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Mechanical Engineering with the focus on NDE.

At MxV Rail, Dr. Poudel currently provides technical leadership and manages various inspection and detection research related projects in North America and overseas. In this role, he is playing a key role and serve as a SME and technical lead in the research, development, and testing of advanced NDE and automated wayside inspection technologies for nondestructive characterization of railroad components to optimize their safety, integrity, and life costs.

Dr. Poudel also led the MxV Rail intern program and managed the intern team and interns at MxV Rail  from 2017-2019. In this role, he revised hiring, onboarding, and exit process for interns, improving inter-departmental relationships and employee engagement. He also implemented and adopted a performance management process and system for interns.

Prior joining MxV Rail, Dr. Poudel worked as a laboratory supervisor in the Intelligent Measurement and Evaluation Laboratory at the Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC). In this role, he managed and mentored several graduate/ undergraduate students in conducting research, preparation, submission, and publication of research findings. His responsibilities included preparing various external and internal grant proposals, technical reports, and delivering presentations. During this time, he collaborated and lead numerous projects that were a direct outcome of several industries/governmental agencies need. Also, he was a full-time Instructor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering & Energy Processes, SIUC. His responsibilities included creating and teaching machine design coursework for undergraduate students. He also served as a team advisor for several senior design projects.

Dr. Poudel has received numerous prestigious recognition both in the field of NDE and railway research. He was the recent recipient of the 2019 International Heavy Haul Association (IHHA) Emerging Railway Professionals Award. He has also received the 2018 ASNT Mentoring Award and 2014 ASNT Young NDT Professional Award.

Dr. Poudel brings over 10 years of research, development, and testing experience in the field of NDE for different applications. He has authored over 80 technical publications and presentations in the field of NDE and has 1 patent. In ASNT, Dr. Poudel has held several leadership roles over the year. He is the vice-chair of the ASNT Research Council, past program chair for the ASNT Research Symposium, Past chair of the ASNT Colorado section, and an active member of several committees in numerous ASNT councils.
