Larry Culbertson, Jr.

Larry Culbertson has dedicated 43 years of his career to nondestructive testing (NDT). During his tenure, he has held positions as a technician, engineer, and senior leadership roles at Northrop Grumman, Conam Inspection, Cooperheat/MQS, VMI, and Stork Materials Test & Inspection. QNDT Services, established in 2011, is his consulting company providing Level 3 services to customers across the globe. In 2015 the company acquired NDT Solutions (NDTS), an engineering group, which designs simple conventional inspection systems to complex robotic solutions. The company grew again in 2021 when it acquired the assets of EC NDT and plans to provide a full range of eddy current products to its customers.

He has been instrumental in developing unique inspection programs utilizing emerging technologies for aerospace and other Industries. In 2017, Culbertson was part of a team recognized by Airlines for America (A4A) and SAE International for putting together a Composite Structure Training Program for the industry. He is a certified ASNT NDT Level III in radiography (film/digital), ultrasonic, electromagnetic, liquid penetrant and magnetic particle testing methods. Culbertson is actively involved with ASTM E7 committee for Nondestructive Testing and NADCAP. In addition to his ASNT NDT Level III certifications, he has held previous certificates with the Navy Nuclear Program and the American Welding Society. He has been an active member of the ASNT Greater Los Angeles Section for the last 40 years. He has authored 12 technical papers and presented at both local and national association meetings.

As a Director and Responsible NDT Level 3 for NDTS, Culbertson’s responsibilities include customer education, implementing solutions, developing client inspection programs, and demonstrating the success of the latest technology for industry/customer acceptance. As the Managing Director of NDTS his company is known as a forward thinking, technology-based NDT and services company. Having passion for knowledge, commitment to integrity, and continuing a practical hands-on approach in the aerospace and energy sectors he has developed a strong acumen within the NDT Industry. Witnessing the analog era through digital transformation has prepared Culbertson in transitioning to Industry 4.0.

Culbertson’s ambition for serving on the Board of Directors is to mentor the next generation of technicians and participate in guiding the industry as we implement artificial intelligence and augmented reality. He looks forward to making a positive impact on the future of ASNT and the industry overall.
