Acadiana

Lafayette, Louisiana

The Acadiana Section sponsored a field tour at GEO Heat Exchangers LLC located in St. Gabriel, Louisiana, for the NDT students of the Baton Rouge Community College on 21 June. The Section also provided lunch for the students.

Chicago

Chicago, Illinois

The Chicago Section met on 13 May with 25 guests and members in attendance at the Crazy Pour restaurant in Villa Park, Illinois. The guest speaker for the evening was Stuart A. Kleven from Alloyweld Inspection Co., Bensenville, Illinois. The title of his presentation was “Magnetic Particle Inspection, Process and Process Controls.” The discussion centered on the various techniques of magnetic particle inspection that are employed and the process controls and means of qualification used to validate magnetic particle techniques. The use of the hysteresis curve was explained and a number of curves were shown depicting various materials and the magnetizing force required. The SAE AS5282 ring was displayed and the qualification process was explained with a comparison to the results of an AS5282 ring to the old-style Ketos ring. Finally, he elaborated on the new LED UV-A lamps and the ASTM E3022 process for qualification of the lamps.

Greater Houston

Houston, Texas

The Greater Houston Section held a board of directors and executive committee meeting on 12 June hosted by Section Chair Rick D. Arnett at the office of AIP. This was a summer meeting to plan for upcoming fall and spring activities. The most important item on the agenda was reviewing the section budget. Financial Oversight Chair Tom W. Roberts had all committee chairs submit planning budgets for their committee’s activity. Actual and forecasting statements were presented and reviewed. Early budget planning is the key to having a successful year for any section. Other topics discussed included membership retention and marketing plans.

Zachary Wayne Sebren and Zeki Cosku Gokce recently attended the Regional Planning Meeting (RPM) hosted by the ASNT International Service Center and Section Operations Council. Sebren and Gokce shared ideas and action items of what they learned at the RPM to help the Section be even more successful.

Hampton Roads

Newport News, Virginia

The Hampton Roads Section’s June golf tournament went very well and all had a great time. A special thanks to Phil Britton for purchasing all the prizes, to JJ Bosco for selling raffle tickets and mulligans, and to Stan Meyer and his daughter Kelly for taking care of the sign-in table, collecting fees, collecting raffle and mulligan money, writing a check to the course, taking photos, and helping with drawing the raffle tickets and announcing the prize winners.  Eight full teams participated, and great weather helped ensure a fun day on the course.


India

Chennai, India

The India Section held a meeting on 18 May at the Hotel Golden Palm and Spa in New Delhi, India, with 19 members in attendance. Kamaraj Thangavel and Navita Gupta presented on the application and interpretation of ASNT Recommended Practice No. SNT-TC-1A.


Israeli

Tel-Aviv, Israel

The Israeli Section held a technical meeting on 26 June at Gabi Shoef Laboratory, Yavne, Israel, which was attended by 16 members and guests. The lecture was presented by Liat Shoef Gombo and was titled “Failures in Radiography – Facts, Statistics, and Remedies.” The Israeli Section will continue holding technical meetings so NDT professionals in Israel can meet socially and exchange technical ideas for the benefit of the profession.

Metro New York / Northern New Jersey

Rockville Centre, New York

Twenty-seven members and guests of the Metro New York/Northern New Jersey Section met on 8 May at the American Legion Post #342 in Freeport, New York, to hear John Z. Chen of Schlumberger give a presentation titled “NDT of Welds in Upstream Equipment for Oil and Gas.” The meeting was another joint meeting with the local American Welding Society section.

The meeting kicked off with a social hour and dinner. Section business was discussed, including the new section officers for the 2019–2020 program year. The officers are Chair Tara M. Kavanaugh, Vice Chair (New Jersey) Peter J. Branch, Vice Chair (New York) Edward P. Dukich, Secretary Felipe E. Benavides, and Treasurer David E. Bauer. Section officers are busy planning a full schedule of technical meetings for the new program year with the first technical meeting to take place in September.

Miami Valley

Dayton/Cincinnati, Ohio

The Miami Valley Section met on 31 May for their annual golf outing at Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro, Ohio. While this event typically takes place in June, 31 May was the only date available at the course. In addition, the Section held a board meeting, which was open to all Section members, on 20 June. At this meeting, the results of the director elections were announced and attendees started work on next year’s program.


Pacific Northwest

Seattle, Washington

The Pacific Northwest Section met on 10 June at The Old Spaghetti Factory, Tukwila, Washington, with 21 members and guests in attendance. Charles W. (Chuck) Musson gave a presentation titled “Overview of Clover Park NDT Program, New Campus and State-of-the-Art NDT Equipment Advancements.” Musson gave an overview of the beautiful new Clover Park Technical College campus that has ample lab and classrooms for teaching all the NDT methods. The college has also undergone equipment updates and has hired more Level IIIs recently retired from Boeing, who will give Clover Park students better understanding of all NDT methods as well as how to specialize in multiple methods. In addition, the school has collaborated with a number of local NDT businesses to create a program that allows students to earn hours toward their Level I certifications. Musson also honored Pacific Northwest Section member Christopher Allin Black Sr. with an award for his years of dedication teaching NDT classes and mentoring students at Clover Park Technical College. Black was also a prior recipient of the ASNT Mentoring Award in 2013. Finally, elections were held for the incoming 2019–2020 Pacific Northwest Section's board of directors.

San Diego

San Diego, California

The San Diego Section hosted a meeting at the 94th Aero Squadron San Diego, California, with 18 members and guests in attendance. The meeting was dedicated to the change of gavel and acknowledging the efforts of the current Section officers and board of directors for their service during the 2018–2019 program year. The incoming 2019–2020 Section officers and directors were also recognized at the meeting. Section Chair Ramon Thomson provided a review of the state of the Section, and then turned over the helm to incoming Chair Michael J. Diaz.


Saudi Arabian

Dhahran, Saudi Arabia

The Saudi Arabian Section held its first meeting of the 2019–2020 program year on 8 July at the Carlton Al Moaibed Hotel with 89 members in attendance. Guest speaker Abdullah M. Al Khalifah presented an overview of the Section’s activities during the 2018–2019 program year.

South Texas

San Antonio, Texas

On 29 May, IHI Southwest Technologies Inc. hosted the South Texas Section’s meeting. The technical presentation by Bryan Wright and Toshi Hamano was on the ARMUT® technology. This is a unique inspection technology that allows a transducer (usually a phased array) to scan a pipe weld and automatically keep track of the transducer position while marrying the ultrasonic data with the transducer position. Eleven people attended the meeting.
