Philip D. Johnson Honorary Member Award

The Philip D. Johnson Honorary Member Award is given to a longtime member (minimum 20 years) who has provided meritorious service in the technology of nondestructive testing and is appreciated at the national and possibly international level. The award celebrates individuals who have dedicated their careers to advancing the field of NDT and have made significant, lasting contributions to ASNT and the broader NDT community.

Named in honor of Philip D. Johnson, who co-founded ASNT and guided it through its first three decades, this award is the highest lifetime award bestowed by the Society.

Eligibility

To acknowledge and honor a member of the Society for outstanding eminence in the field of nondestructive testing, this award is the highest lifetime recognition that the Society bestows.

The recipient shall be a person of outstanding eminence in the field of NDT which can include research and development, applications, teaching or management. The person shall be a long-time member of the Society and must be widely recognized and appreciated nationally, and perhaps internationally, for many years (minimum twenty (20)).

Selection

The Awards and Honors Council selects up to one individual each year, and the recognition will be presented at ASNT’s Annual Conference.

Nomination

  • Nomination Letter detailing the qualifications of the candidate

  • A resume of the candidate’s activities and reputation supporting the nomination

  • A letter seconding the recommendation from a colleague who is also familiar with the nominee’s activities/reputation
