Section Funding

ASNT recognizes the significant role that each section plays in advancing the NDT community and practices. To assist you in achieving your objectives, we provide various funding opportunities tailored to enhance your section's initiatives, events, and overall impact.

Apply for Section Funding 

Active Section Funding

Up to $1500

Sections allowed one application per quarter. Up to five sections may receive funding per quarter.

Requirements

  • Section has a bank account.

  • Submit a Report of Officers

  • Submit a projected budget for the program year

  • Schedule/host three technical meetings for the program year

Reactivation Funding

Up to $1000

Domestic sections can apply every three years and international sections every five years. Up to four section may receive funding each year.

Requirements

  • Section is inactive and hasn’t had their charter revoked

  • Section has a bank account

  • Submit a Report of Officers

  • Submit a projected budget

  • Hosted at least one technical meeting with two more scheduled

New Charter Funding

Up to $1000

Up to four sections may receive funding each year. Sections can only receive this once.

Requirements

  • Section is newly established and was not previously chartered

  • Section has a bank account

Use of Funds

Section funding is for activities and projects that advance the mission of the Society while advancing the goals and objectives of the section. Activities/projects must be completed within the program year in which the funding is requested.

Funds can be used for:

  • Marketing and communication tools (website domain, virtual meeting platform, association management software, etc.)

  • Community outreach (career fair, STEM activities, science fair, etc.)

  • Education programs (courses/classes for recertification points which require startup funds to establish education programs to begin generating their own revenue)

  • Membership outreach (events to promote ASNT/section membership)

  • IRS tax-exempt application and state incorporation fees or equivalent

Funds cannot be used for:

  • Section officer/member compensation for contribution to the activity/project

  • Travel costs/reimbursement

  • Section scholarships

  • Section meals at meetings

Application Process

Applications will be accepted once per quarter. Applications are reviewed by ASNT staff to determine whether the activities fit the program guidelines. They will recommend quarterly funding recipients to the Section Operations Council Section Funding Task Group.

Disbursement of Funds

Upon selection, sections will receive funding in the quarter following the one that they applied in. For example, if a section applies in quarter 2, they will receive the funds in quarter 3. Sections that are selected for funding are required to sign a funding agreement. Sections may receive a funding amount lower than the amount they applied for.

No, to apply for any funding categories, sections must first submit a report of officers, a budget, and have planned and/or hosted three technical meetings. Additionally, sections must have an established bank account to be eligible for funding.

When applying for funds, you'll need to submit a budget and timeline outlining how and when the funds will be used.

After your activity is completed, you will be required to provide a report detailing how the funds were spent, including all relevant receipts. If the total cost of your activity is less than the grant amount, you won't need to return any of the remaining funds.

Up to five sections may receive active section funding each quarter.
Up to four sections could receive reactivation funding each year.
Up to four sections could receive new charter funding each year.

For active section funding, sections can apply once per quarter. Reactivation funding is available to domestic sections every three years and international sections every five years. New charter funding is a one-time opportunity, allowing sections to apply only once.

Applications must be submitted by the section chair and one additional section officer. This ensures that the application is fully supported and aligns with the section's goals.

Projects or activities funded through this program must take place between 1 July and 30 June of subsequent years. The start and end dates of your project should be clearly outlined in your application to ensure proper planning and execution within this timeframe.
