Successful ASNT NDT Level II certification candidates must complete the General examination and at least one Specific examination.
Consists of 50 multiple-choice questions covering the fundamentals, principles, and theory found in the applicable Level II Topical Outlines found in the ANSI/ASNT American National Standard CP-105, ASNT Standard Topical Outlines for Qualification of Nondestructive Testing Personnel. The general exam is the same for all Sectors for any one test method.
The specific examinations determine the industry Sector. ASNT currently offers Specific examinations for the General Inspection and Pressure Equipment Sectors. These examinations consist of 40 multiple-choice questions based on an NDT procedure covering the equipment, operating processes and NDT techniques commonly used in the applicable industry Sector.
The table below lists the number of questions and time allowed for each exam. Clicking on an exam will take you to an abbreviated topical outline and reference page for that exam. For the full topical outlines and complete list of references, see the topical outlines listed in the American National Standard ANSI/ASNT CP-105, Standard Topical Outlines for Qualification of Nondestructive Testing Personnel.
Examinations may be taken at any of ASNT's Authorized Examination Centers or at any regularly scheduled ASNT examination site. Visit the Exam Delivery page for more details.
Personnel that fail an examination are sent an analysis sheet showing the percentage of questions missed in each major category of the Body of Knowledge for that examination. Personnel that successfully complete both the General and at least one Specific examination in a test method are sent an ASNT NDT Level II digital badge showing the applicable test methods and Sectors but will not receive an analysis sheet.
